This will be a packed weekend presented by an experienced interdisciplinary team. It is designed to give participants up to date understanding of pain science, pain assessment as well as practical hands on (dermoneuromodulation) and hands off (education, mindfulness & relaxation) treatment approaches.  The course will be open to Massage Therapists and Kinesiologists.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Explore current understanding of the biological processes involved in the perception of pain
  • Develop understanding of the basic neuroscience of pain and the interrelationship between psychological, physiological and environmental processes in pain
  • Develop understanding of the assessment of pain and barriers to physical rehabilitation
  • Develop understanding of the importance of the therapeutic relationship and increase skills to foster effective relationships with complex patients
  • Explore the principles of manual therapy and its potential to affect the pain experience
  • Develop hands on practice of dermoneuromodulation
  • Explore the biological processes of mood, cognition and the modulating effects of mindfulness meditation and relaxation strategies
  • Develop basic skills of applying mindfulness and relaxation strategies
  • Explore principles of physical rehabilitation in chronic pain
